JOHN ROBERT POWERS ACTING AND MODELING STUDENT EXCELS IN CLASSES FOR TELEVISION COMMERCIALS, ACTING MONOLOGUES, FASHION PRINT AND RUNWAY MODELING

Toronto Based John Robert Powers Parent Reflects on Child’s Positive Experience with John Robert Powers Acting and Modeling School

(Los Angeles, November 12, 2008) – When Robin Wilson signed her son, Login Wilson, up for acting and modeling classes at the local John Robert Powers school in Toronto, Canada she had no idea how influential the classes would be for her young son.  Like so many parents with young children Robin and her husband were looking for after school activities that would encourage development and self confidence for their son Login.  Robin had heard positive things about the Toronto based John Robert Powers from other parents who had enrolled their children in the acting and modeling classes but thought Login should try soccer first but Login wasn’t enjoying the classes and spent most of his time lying on the ground or asking if he could be goalie so that he wouldn’t have to run.  “The funny thing is both my husband and I are really good athletes but Login just didn’t have any interest whatsoever.  It was hard for us to find anything that Login was interested in doing,” said Robin Wilson.

This all changed drastically when Robin enrolled Login into John Robert Powers Toronto.  They initially had him attending acting and modeling classes once a week but Login responded so well to the John Robert Powers classes that Robin and her husband started sending Login three to four times a week especially when time came for a major talent competition hosted in Vancouver in early September.  John Robert Powers enrolled Login in classes that taught him how to act in television commercials, scene acting and monologues and how to properly model for fashion print, commercials and runway.  Login’s mother proudly exclaimed, “In just three months Login has memorized more than 10 commercials and three monologues – he’s just a sponge!”  Robin went on to say, “We weren’t sure if this would be it or not, but we thought, he likes to perform, he likes to act, so let’s give our hand at this. No expectation, let’s make this fun and see where he goes with it,” she said.  “And now, it’s just overwhelming.  He’s meeting with people - he’s ready to work. He’s just developed so much and is so focused and it’s all thanks to John Robert Powers.”

President of John Robert Powers, Ron Patterson, says he often sees this type of change in students who attend John Robert Powers school classes. “I am very pleased to hear about Login Wilson’s development at John Robert Powers in Toronto.  Our Toronto school is one of the strongest schools we have and it doesn’t surprise me in the least that Login is responding so well to his acting and modeling classes,” said Ron Patterson.  “I’m glad his parents are able to witness his continued progress and development.  When it comes to teaching fashion print and runway modeling, monologues and commercial acting no school is more prepared than John Robert Powers and its eighty year legacy.”

Robin went on to explain that Login loves the attention and loves to entertain.  The most rewarding aspect of the experience for Robin and her husband has been seeing Login’s efforts get acknowledged, and his mindset after doing a great job.  “The capability is rewarding.  You see him work so hard and memorize it, and do the best he can do-it just blows you away,” Robin said.

Ron Patterson echoes this sentiment, “Time and time again I see children come to John Robert Powers wanting to become stars and you know some of them end up on national television and in films but all the students leave John Robert Powers with refreshed confidence, more dignity and self assuredness that reflect in all areas of their lives.  Children and teenagers who take classes at John Robert Powers are better public speakers, know how to conduct themselves in job and college interviews and know how to dress well and act becomingly.  Personal development is key at John Robert Powers,” concluded Ron Patterson.

If Login continues to pursue modeling and acting, the next step for his parents will be to learn the rights of children when it comes to working and how it will affect his schoolwork and his income.  Robin noted that they would have to explore the alternatives for his studies; if a child is on set for a certain amount of hours, then the child must have a tutor. The John Robert Powers school stresses that education is key, and the kid’s grades need be up to par.  The next step for Login is to search out an agent.  John Robert Powers Toronto is frequently visited by top local agents and casting directors from Hollywood and New York.
John Robert Powers is an internationally recognized acting and modeling school system with locations throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia.   For over eighty years, John Robert Powers has been training students in personal development.  John Robert Powers provides every student with the schooling, guidance, and confidence to further their individual potential and to reach their highest career goals.
John Robert Powers actors and models have appeared in national commercials, television shows and films such as Levi Strauss & Co., Dr. Pepper, Revlon, Apple Computers, Target, Chevrolet, American Idol, Superman Returns, The Changeling and the Disney Channel’s Hannah Montana.

(Los Angeles, August 27, 2008) – As President of iPOP! (International Presentation of Performers), Joseph Beauchamp has seen many clever ways for children, teenagers, and their parents to come up with ways to attend iPOP! conventions based in Las Vegas and in Hollywood. After all, what young actor, model, dancer or singer wouldn’t want to jump at the opportunity to audition for entertainment industry giants, the very top agents, managers and casting directors? When Joseph Beauchamp started learning about seven year old iPOP! contestant, Sam Schuder’s determination to pay her own way to iPOP! Las Vegas 2008 he took notice.

“This little girl from Sacramento named Sam Schuder sold lemonade, coffee and baked goods from her front lawn under her mother’s watchful eye every morning and afternoon for six months earning enough money to attend our iPOP! competition last July in Las Vegas at the Palazzo and Venetian Hotels,” said Joseph Beauchamp. “Apparently each Saturday she would attend her local iPOP! classes in Sacramento which were provided at the John Robert Powers school in that area and she would drop off dollar bills in a brown paper bag sometimes $300 to $400!” Beauchamp went on to say. “Sam Schuder was one of our highlights of iPOP! Las Vegas 2008, we are very proud of her.”

Seven year old Sam Schuder attended iPOP! with her mother Julie and she end ended up placing in the top three in four outstandingly competitive acting and modeling categories amongst other children her age including being 2nd runner up in the coveted ‘Child Star of The Year’ competition.

Sam Schuder’s lemonade and baked good selling technique paid off as she was approached by several top Hollywood management companies and agencies. Sam eventually signed with Emerald Talent Group and is at the moment deciding whether she should sign with Abrams Artist Agency or the William Morris Agency.

International Presentation of Performers, iPOP! is the successful merger of the music and acting industry with fashion and modeling, creating one of the largest and most well respected events for aspiring actors, singers, dancers and models to attend. Yiyi McManus, Recipient of the 2008 iPOP! Acting Audition Scholarship

July 23rd, 2008 · 2 Comments

By Mike Atkinson / For The Item

As an orphan in a welfare institute in China, Yiyi McManus barely knew if she was going to survive to see another day, yet today her sights are set on Hollywood.

jrp-ipop-scholarship-yiyi.jpg

Yiyi, a Lynn resident, is the recipient of the 2008 International Presentation of Performers (iPOP) Acting Audition scholarship and, in addition, she will appear as a guest on the next season of “Wizards of Waverly Place,” the Disney Channel’s original show.

Yiyi, a 2008 graduate of Breed Middle school, received the $20,000 scholarship earlier this month at the annual iPOP convention in Las Vegas, Nev. where she also had the chance to audition in front of agents and casting directors for various shows including Desperate Housewives, Ugly Betty, Scrubs, Entourage, Hannah Montana and Zoey 101.

Ron Patterson, the chairman and president of John Roberts Powers school systems, funded Yiyi’s trip to attend the four-day convention in Las Vegas and then, at the conclusion of the convention, presented her with a scholarship that was recently established by the John Robert Powers school system in her name.

“I had no idea that I was receiving the award. I was so excited just to be able to go up on stage and speak in front of the large crowd,” Yiyi said of her impromptu speech to nearly 4,000 attendees.

Former Lynn mayor and Yiyi’s father, Pat McManus said his 14-year-old daughter did a great job under pressure.
“When she was up on stage she looked like an entirely different kid,” he said. “She was so mature.”

Yiyi, currently a student at John Robert Powers Boston, was adopted from China by Pat and his wife Debbie when Yiyi was 4-years-old. As an infant, Yiyi was abandoned in Guangzhou, China where she was found in a closet at the Guangzhou hospital with a note saying “We can’t take care of her” and a few Chinese dollars pinned to her blanket.

While at the orphanage, Yiyi faced daily hardships that included starvation and beatings that resulted in broken bones. Even after reconstructive surgery to her eardrums, Yiyi still suffers from a slight hearing loss that resulted from a blunt trauma to her head.

“She’s had to work 10 times as hard as the average person,” said her father. “But she doesn’t quit. The word ‘no’ means nothing to her.”

With the help of an American woman who was volunteering at Yiyi’s orphanage, Yiyi received daily meals and nurturing for nearly two years. Adding into account what happened to many other kids at the orphanage, Pat McManus credits this woman with saving Yiyi’s live.

“About 7 years ago, I received a letter with a photo of a woman holding a young child that looked like Yiyi,” he said. “Come to found out, that woman in the photo was the woman who saved Yiyi from the orphanage. A few years back we invited the woman to our house and she spent a week with Yiyi. She is a great woman. It was truly amazing.”

When asked how she became interested in modeling, Yiyi credits a Disney Channel movie. Coincidentally, this fall, Yiyi will be in Hollywood guest-staring on a Disney Channel show.

“Since I was six years old I wanted to become a model,” she said. “I saw a movie on the Disney channel - ‘Model Behavior’ - about a young female model and since then I have wanted to model.”

Her father has a slightly different memory.

“Yiyi, when she was six, told me that she wanted to get ‘nice clothes for free’ and have people ask her for autographs,” he said.

Once Yiyi started to attend modeling classes at John Robert Powers Boston, she quickly became a child protégé under the watchful eye of Arelen Pedjoe and Barbara Tyler, the owners of the modeling school, who focused on placing the atrocities of Yiyi’s past behind her.

Now, Yiyi focuses on using those tough years of her life as an inspiration to other struggling children.

“I model because I would like to go back to China, visit the kids and get them out of the orphanages,” she said. “I want to show those kids that they are bigger than they think they are. No one deserves to live like they do in the orphanages. I hope people in China will see what I went through and I hope adults will hear my story and adopt a child of their own.”

Pat McManus credits YiYi’s teachers with her success.

“The John Robert Powers School in Boston, Ron Paterson and iPOP have been great to Yiyi,” he said, recalling Yiyi running on stage when he would deliver speeches as mayor. “When I was mayor of Lynn and doing a lot of public speaking, she would follow me on stage and grab the mike. She’s always been very composed and very comfortable in front of a crowd.”

In September, Yiyi and her family will be traveling to Hollywood for a week to meet with agents from “Wizards of Waverly Place” and then in January Yiyi will move to Hollywood for four months to do tapings of the television show. She has already appeared in commercial print advertising campaigns and Houghton Mifflin textbooks, and was featured in a live television broadcast, airing in China and New York.

“I love acting and modeling because you get to play out the different emotions in a lot of characters,” Yiyi said. “In the end, I am still me but I get to play someone else.”
